Huawei, the Chinese telecommunications and manufacturing giant that brought you phones like the Ascend P1, didn't plan on missing out the chance to shine at the world's largest tech show. The freshly announced Huawei Ascend W1 is company's very first Windows Phone 8 running handset that sports a 4 inch LCD screen, dual-core processor, and a launch window in the first quarter of this year.

Huawei is positioning the Ascend W1 as a 'smart and stylish alternative' for consumers who want a fully featured smartphone with a reasonable price tag. The Windows Phone 8 powered handset carries an attractive, stylish design that, according to Huawei, is inspired by a tropical island. At the forefront, the Ascend W1 touts a 4 inch WVGA resolution (480 x 800 pixels) IPS display with full lamination technology for improved outdoor visibility. Just above the screen hides a 0.3 Mpix front-facing camera, while the rear of the handset houses the primary 5.0 Mpix Auto-focus camera with flash LED.

"Inspired and powered by people, the Ascend W1 is a combination of Huawei’s user-centric design philosophy and Windows Phone 8 software, bringing consumers a truly compelling alternative,” said Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group.

A reasonably sized 1950 mAh battery along with a microSD card slot can be found underneath the rear cover of this 10.5 mm slim handset. The Huawei Ascend W1 also comes with 4 GB of internal storage, while the underlying hardware of this WP8 running handset is based on a Qualcomm Snapdragon™ S4 dual-core 1.2 GHz processor with Adreno 305 graphics.

The Huawei Ascend W1 is shaping up to be a great option for those looking for an inexpensive Windows Phone 8 handset. Are you thinking of picking one up when it arrives?
