12 Gameloft games coming to Windows Phone 8
Gameloft has announced that it will be releasing 12 of its most popular games to Windows Phone 8, complete with 'optimisations' that will take advantage of the platform's Xbox ecosystem and services.

12 new games from Gameloft
According to Gameloft, all 12 titles will be compatible with the upcoming wave of Windows Phone 8 handsets, including those from Nokia, Samsung and HTC. Gameloft did not provide any specific release dates, only that the lineup of games is 'coming 2012/2013'. The full list of games is as follows:

Ice Age Village

N.O.V.A. 3: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance

Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour

Shark Dash

Asphalt 7: Heat

The Dark Knight Rises

UNO™ & Friends

Order & Chaos Online

The Amazing Spider-Man

Fashion Icon

Texas Poker for Prizes

Real Soccer 2013

Gameloft should be pretty familiar to anyone who has played mobile games in the recent years. As gaming on smartphones and tablets is more prevalent than ever, having the Paris-based game developer committed to WP8 should be a real boost to the platform's mainstream appeal.

What's more, some of the announced titles have proved to be of exceptional quality despite their somewhat cliché storylines. N.O.V.A. 3 is a great example of how Gameloft has taken ideas from existing console games (in this case, Halo) to deliver an action-packed single player experience along with impressive visuals and reliable touchscreen controls.

The official adaptations of The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises are another two solid examples that bring high visual fidelity and near console-like gaming experience to smartphone and tablet users. At the same time, Order & Chaos Online stands out from the lineup as one of the first mobile games with proper MMORPG elements not unlike World of Warcraft.

Similarly, the highly anticipated Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour draws heavily from popular FPS franchises like Call of Duty or Battlefiled. With realistic physics engine and support for competitive online multiplayer, it looks like mobile gamers are going to have yet another quality blockbuster title on their hands when the fourth instalment of Modern Combat finally lands in digital stores.

As noted earlier, these 12 Gameloft titles will integrate with WP8's Xbox Live service, which means gamers will be able to unlock achievements, check and compare leaderboards, and even switch from playing on one device to another with the Play-Pause-Resume feature via Xbox Cloud Storage.

Amidst the announcements earlier this week that showcased a slew of highly anticipated features in Windows Phone 8, Microsoft also unveiled a number of videogame engines, including such well known game creation tools as Unity and Havok. The underlying cross-platform compatibility is another major asset, which allows developers to write code for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 devices at the same time.
