Gameloft and Duo Games announce a wireless, dual-stick controller for iOS devices
Gameloft has joined forces with Duo Games to release a wireless gamepad that should deliver a console-like gaming experience to iOS gamers. There’s a catch, though, as the Bluetooth controller is only compatible with Gameloft titles, out of which only five are supported at the moment, including Asphalt 7: Heat, N.O.V.A 3, Order & Chaos Online, Brothers in Arms 2: Global Front and Modern Combat 3: Fallen Nation.

The Duo Gamer controller looks somewhat familiar to the classic NES controller due to its blocky design, but additionally it sports dual analog sticks and triggers buttons on either side that make it more reminiscent to gamepads used by current generation of consoles. Powered by two AA batteries, the controller works with a full range of iOS devices, including iPhone, iPod and iPad. Although the controller will ship with a stand to prop your iOS gaming device, for the full experience you’d want to connect to a bigger screen via AirPlay or an HDMI cable.

Although having the precision of physical controls in first-person shooters like N.O.V.A 3 or the upcoming Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour can be a real life-saver (especially in online matches), the initial price tag of $79.99 (£50) will probably appear too steep for even the most dedicated mobile gamers.

There are already some interesting alternatives available to iOS gamers, most notably the iCade that turns Apple iPad into an Arcade Gaming Cabinet. Meanwhile, the number of on-going Kickstarter projects like the open-source controller iControlPad 2 shows there are plenty of eager mobile gamers willing to trade virtual on-screen controls for proper buttons under their thumbs.
