HTC One A9 - Design Worth Admiring

HTC One A9 - Design Worth Admiring
HTC wasn’t about to give up the fight and wait for next year’s flagship launch. Instead they decided to roll out a new smartphone that sits right alongside their current flagship, the One M9. Having two flagships can get confusing, however when you compare the two you’ll see that they have slightly different target audience. While One M9 is considered to be a real powerhouse in terms of performance, One A9 focuses more on looks.

HTC One A9 is truly a thing of beauty in terms of design. HTC pioneered the aluminium unibody design back in 2013 and they’ve only made it better since. Besides being wonderful to gaze at, One A9 is meticulously put together. After all our time spent with it, we couldn’t find a single design flaw. Aluminium is slippery by nature so you’ll have to pay extra attention, but besides that everything is assembled using surgical precision. Even the edges are perfectly flush with the shell which is not the case on many other devices we’ve reviewed. Dimensions come in at 145.8 x 70.8 x 7.3 mm and it weighs 143 grams.

The display of choice was a 5-inch AMOLED panel producing a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels roughly amounting to 441ppi density. Protected by Gorilla Glass 4, you can be sure it won’t get easily scratched in the depths of your pocket. Screen properties are exactly where one would expect them to be. Both still images and video are crisp, colourful, and full of detail. More pixel-packed screen are just starting to emerge, but powering more pixels on something of this size is a waste of energy. You’ll certainly be elated by how everything looks on this screen, particularly more colourful content.

Powering HTC One A9 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor alongside Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Yes there are flagships with a more powerful CPU and more RAM out there, but it doesn’t matter because One A9 is delightful as is. A lot has to do with the fact that HTC decided to bring Sense UI closer to stock Android. One advantage A9 has over competition is that it features Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the latest Android version available. Predictably, the new version looks and feels terrific especially running on capable hardware. Worth mentioning is the addition of a fingerprint scanner located below the screen also doubling as a home button. Accurate and easy to use, it’s a massive plus to the overall experience. European version of One A9 comes with 16GB of on-board storage and is technically further expandable by another 200GB via a microSD card.

Camera setup has been brought over from One M9 and features the same UltraPixel technology. A 13-megapixel sensor on the back paired with a 4-megapixel sensor on the front leaves you ready for anything the world has to throw at you. Thanks to Optical Image Stabilization, your photos will be blur-free and worthy of any exhibition.

Design can play an imperative role in success so we applaud HTC for taking their time to precisely craft what can almost be considered art. Including powerful hardware alongside wonderful design makes it even more appealing. If you’re in the market for something beautiful and equally powerful, HTC One A9 is undoubtedly the right choice!
