Microsoft Lumia 435 - Never compromise

Microsoft Lumia 435 - Never compromise
The world of smartphones revolves around 4k screens, octa-core processors and more memory than your mind can fathom, but what about users just moving into the smartphone world? For those that are just transitioning away from feature phones, a cheap smartphone is the best way to move up. Once you get the hang of all the features, buying something more powerful is easy as pie. One such smartphone was showcased by Microsoft earlier this year and we have it on review today. Let’s take a closer look!

Microsoft Lumia 435

Like all budget Lumias, this one retains the iconic shape made famous by Nokia. One of the first things you’ll notice is that it’s much smaller than most modern smartphones. Having dimensions of 118.1 x 64.7 x 11.7 mm and weighing in at 134 grams, it is quite comfortable for any hand size. This particularly suits the younger generation as bigger smartphones are fairly unwieldy and fragile. Additionally, Lumia 435 is built out of surprisingly tough polycarbonate and we’re sure that it will survive the odd fall here and there. It’s a point worth considering especially if you take into account that users graduating from feature phones aren’t as careful with their devices as smartphone users. Being gentle with gadgets is something one acquires over time.

On the front, Microsoft opted for a 4-inch LCD screen producing a resolution of 480x800 pixels for a total of 233ppi. It performs fairly well in most situations, but it’s definitely not a strong point of this device. Finding quality components around this price point is equivalent to finding the edge of universe. One day it might be possible, but as of right now some sacrifices have to be made. On a positive note, Lumia 435 has a brightness sensor so you won’t have to fumble around every time you step outside.

Under the rugged plastic shell lies Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 200 with two cores clocked at 1.2GHz. Alongside it are Adreno 302 GPU and 1GB of RAM. Windows Phone was always the champion of low-spec optimization and it really shows here. Even though Lumia 435 has a little more power than your average budget phone, there isn’t a hint of lag navigating through menus and using it for normal stuff such as making calls and messaging. Naturally, if you attempt to do something more labour intensive there will be some waiting involved. Games have decent frame rates, even those like Asphalt which require a healthy dose of processing power. An important point to consider is the fact that Lumia 435 will receive an upgrade to Windows 10 soon. Once it does, users will have access to better quality apps alongside numerous other features. Imaging is taken care of by two sensors; a 2-megapixel main camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera. Both sensors take fairly basic images, but on a positive note it is possible to take selfies on a tiny budget.

Lumia 435 might not seem much on the surface, but for such a low price it comes in as one of the best value for money smartphones on the market. For someone just stepping into the smartphone world, it offers plenty of features in a remarkably tough casing. We definitely recommend taking a closer look!
