Sony Xperia Z5 Compact - Your Perfect Sidekick

Sony Xperia Z5 Compact - Your Perfect Sidekick
Even though there aren’t any flagships with a physical keyboard, there are still some that don’t follow the same “bigger screen, bigger everything” recipe. Sony for example recently showcased a device called Z5 Compact, a throwback to the olden times when you could actually fit a smartphone comfortably in your pocket. Let’s take a closer look!

Earth-shatteringly modern design was always Sony’s hallmark. Spending some time with it, we got to love the frosted glass panels wonderfully concealing fingerprints and the fingerprint sensor mounted on the side. Rather than mount it on the front like other flagship manufacturers, Sony decided to integrate it with the power button on the side, a more natural position at least for us. During our testing it was able to quickly and accurately determine our identity at all times except when our hands were wet. Worth mentioning is the fact that Z5 Compact keeps the waterproofing certificate of previous flagships so you don’t have to worry about getting it slightly wet. Dimensions come in at 127 x 65 x 8.9 mm and it weighs 138 grams.

Our phones keep on growing as a by-product of larger screens. We like having more screen real-estate, but we also like retaining a dose of portability thus until we invent foldable screens or holograms, compromises will have to be made. Xperia Z5 Compact makes that compromise by having a 4.6-inch IPS LCD screen producing a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The resulting 323ppi density won’t win any awards, but stuff like contrast, colour and brightness are spot on. For a smaller screen, it sure has plenty of character.

Encased by the watertight shell is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 with a Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and Quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A57 chipsets working together alongside Adreno 430 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Hardware of this calibre can run latest games on QHD screens with incredible frame rates, let alone on a 720p screen. Having less pixels means that components have to work less in order to deliver the same performance so seeing lag on this device is out of the question. Add the fact that Sony has cleaned up its user interface which is based on Android 5.1.1 and you end up with a perfect platform for dominating Android apps and games. Internal memory comes in at 32GB and can be expanded via a microSD card. Unlike many flagships out there, Xperia Z5 Compact exceeds battery life expectations by delivering nearly two days of moderate usage.

What flagship would be complete without a superb camera? To make sure you end up with outstanding photos, Sony’s engineers employed two excellent sensors. A 23-megapixel rear camera takes very detailed and consistent images while the 5.1-megapixel front sensor is total overkill for selfies and video calls. Xperia Z5 Compact is the smallest phone with 4k recording ability so get ready to take some awesome footage on your next vacation!

Thanks to games and videos, our pockets no longer have any space left. Growing flagships left us no choice if we wanted to experience blistering performance, yet Sony ignored the rules once again and created a handset according to their own recipe. And what a recipe it is, we might add! Pocket friendly and packing the latest hardware, Xperia Z5 Compact reinforces the statement that good thinks come in small packages!
