It’s that time of year again, Apple is gearing up to launch its latest handset. The iPhone 17 series is expected to be unveiled on September 9th. Here’s everything we know so far about Apple’s newest innovation based on rumours.
Apple is expected to release four models in the new iPhone 17 lineup: the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and the all-new 17 Pro Air. This time, there’s no Plus model, instead, Apple has introduced the 17 Pro Air, which is rumoured to be the thinnest iPhone ever. Featuring a 6.6-inch display and measuring under 6mm thick, it certainly lives up to its name.
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to retain the same dimensions as their iPhone 16 Pro counterparts.
Heres whats new.
All four models are expected to feature ProMotion display technology with a 120Hz refresh rate, delivering smoother performance and overall usage. Apple is also rumored to be switching from titanium to aluminum for improved durability. In terms of design, the camera system is said to be getting a major refresh, the rear camera bump will adopt a horizontal layout instead of the traditional square, while the front camera will be upgraded to a 24-megapixel sensor with a six-element lens, the rear camera may also be relocated from the upper-left corner to the centre of the device.
The standard iPhone 17 is expected to retain the same Wide and Ultra Wide cameras, while the new iPhone 17 Air may feature a single-lens 48-megapixel rear camera. At least one model in the lineup, most likely the iPhone 17 Air, is rumoured to debut with an Apple-designed Wi-Fi 7 chip, replacing the Broadcom made version. Apple is also said to be testing its own modem chip in this device, moving away from Qualcomm, though the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro models are likely to continue using Qualcomm chips for now.
In addition to the aluminium frame, the iPhone 17 Pro models are rumoured to feature a redesigned back made of half aluminium and half glass. The top portion is expected to use aluminium, while the bottom will remain glass to ensure wireless charging compatibility.
Fresh Shades.
Apple is rumoured to be introducing some eye-catching new colours in the iPhone 17 series, including fresh green and purple shades, along with a striking papaya option for the Pro model. While these tones are a departure from Apple’s usual palette, they’re expected to be a hit, especially since pastel finishes have performed well in the past. Interestingly, despite recent popularity, pink doesn’t appear to be part of this year’s lineup based on current rumours.
Alongside the new colours, Apple is also rumoured to be shifting the placement of its iconic logo. Reports suggest the Apple symbol may sit lower on the handset, potentially positioned within a break in the MagSafe ring.
With a fresh design and updated operating system, could the iPhone 17 lineup become Apple’s most reliable series yet? And with the introduction of the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, could Apple be on the verge of setting new records in the smartphone industry?
