Factory resetting your iPhone is an important step when you want to completely wipe the device. It’s especially useful if you’re passing your phone on to someone else or trading it in for resale. A factory reset removes all personal data, giving the next user a clean, fresh start.
How to Factory Reset your iPhone
Factory resetting your iPhone is a very simple process that doesn’t take very long at all. It’s important to back up all your data before completing this step. Check out our blog on how to back up your data here.
- Open Settings
- Tap General
- Scroll down and tap Transfer or Reset iPhone
- Tap Erase All Content and Settings
- Enter your passcode if prompted
- Confirm by tapping Erase iPhone
Your iPhone will then restart and go back to its original factory settings with no data on there.
Why you should Factory Reset your iPhone before selling it
It’s extremely important to factory reset your iPhone before using our trade-in service. If our trade-in team receives a device that’s still linked to your Apple account or contains personal data, we won’t be able to complete the trade-in. Devices with data cannot be resold, as this would pose a serious data security risk.
What happens if we receive your phone with data on there
If our trade-in team receives a phone that hasn’t been factory reset, we’ll need to return it to you so this essential step can be completed. In some cases, we may be able to reset the device on your behalf by requesting your passcode, but this carries a risk of data loss if your phone hasn’t been properly backed up.
If your phone is still linked to your Apple account, we can remove it by requesting your password. However, we strongly recommend completing this in advance to avoid any delays or complications.
